All guidesPROCESSORS EXPLAINED

The chip that does the work.

A processor runs instructions. Brand labels and tier numbers are a starting point, not a complete performance comparison.

Do not compare names alone

An older high-tier processor can be slower or less efficient than a newer mid-tier chip. Generation, power limits and cooling all matter.

Ordinary work

For email, documents and browsing, a recent general-purpose processor is often sufficient. Look for independent tests of the exact laptop if you are unsure.

Demanding work

For long exports, code builds or complex analysis, compare results for your workload. Thin designs can perform differently from larger laptops with the same chip name.

Compatibility first

Intel, AMD, Apple silicon and Qualcomm designs differ. Verify the operating system, software and accessories you need before choosing on speed alone.

This is buying guidance, not a hands-on product review. Verify the exact configuration and application requirements before purchase.
